BARCELONA, Spain (February 21, 2014) — Catchoom, a cloud-based image recognition technology provider, today announced they will demonstrate high volume offline image recognition for Augmented Reality usages at Intel App Planet zone at Mobile World Congress, Hall 8.1 Stand 8.1E41 on Monday, February 24 and Tuesday, February 25 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Catchoom will show the power and speed of offline image recognition for Second Screen, Smart Maintenance, Wearables and Entertainment AR applications.
Catchoom’s Recognition Engine running on Intel’s® Atom™ Processor Z3700 Series for Android Tablets provides an industry advantage for a wide array of markets including entertainment, industrial, second screen, smart maintenance and education.
High speed and accuracy for device-based Image Recognition
The demonstration by Catchoom shows the speed and accuracy of device-based image recognition with high volume of images in a Second Screen scenario. Catchoom’s 3D Object Recognition Engine now runs offline (i.e. without Cloud support) on a tablet. Catchoom software running on Intel’s® Atom™ Processor Z3700 Series for Android Tablets is able to recognize one in 5000+ images within 200 ms.
The demo at Mobile World Congress 2014 is showcasing technical performance and exceptional user experience for Second Screen applications. In the demo, the user points a Tablet to a TV display and receives content real-time synchronized with the show running on the TV screen.
Uncompromised recognition power on very large databases
The demo delivers uncompromised image recognition on a large database. While other device-based solutions max out at 500 images or fail under tough recognition conditions, Catchoom’s technology is limited only by the memory available on the mobile device.
Offline recognition overcomes the challenges of poor Wi-Fi connectivity, Internet safety for children and well applies for the emerging use of Wearables and Augmented Reality in manufacturing. Other applications of device-based recognition include Second Screen usages.
Catchoom & Intel to power effective marketing campaigns and second screen experiences
“Through our cooperation with Intel, we strengthen Catchoom’s software architecture, which will allow us to take full advantage of multi-threading and vector instructions”, said David Marimon, CEO of Catchoom. “The results to date illustrate the business case for fast and powerful image recognition in the continued development of Augmented Reality in digital marketing such as mobile purchasing, gamification and visual marketing”.
“Our 3D Object Recognition technology coupled with Intel’s Atom Processor is an opportunity for actionable and meaningful engagement solutions to build effective marketing campaigns, and in second screen or smart maintenance applications for the future.”
“Intel® Atom™ mobile Processor Z3700 Series for Android Tablets not only provides great performance headroom for today’s demanding image recognition workloads, but also frees up more productive “unplugged” time for the tablet users, making it a compelling mobile computing solution for the consumers and businesses”, said Wolfgang Petersen, EMEA Director of Intel Software & Services Group.
At Mobile World Congress, you can also find demonstrations of Catchoom’s innovative and award winning 3D object recognition at the Catalonia Pavillion in Congress Square, the 4YFN Conference at Old Fira, Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc Hall M1 and at WipJam 2014 also in the Old Fira, Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc Hall M5.
